Sylvan Learning – Hour of Code

Hi, Kim Bass here. As the marketing coordinator for Sylvan Learning Center in Salem, NH, I was fortunate to work with Mrs. Kristen DiMatteo, Director of Education at Sylvan Learning. Kristen “rocked” as the instructor for the Hour of Code classes at Bradford Elementary School in Bradford, Massachusetts.  The kids truly enjoyed it…they didn’t want Kristen to leave!

If you would like to host an Hour of Code event at your school or venue, (Recommended ages of students are 10-13 year olds) Contact the Salem, NH Sylvan Learning center to partner with us and bring a FREE Hour of Code class to your community. You’ll likely receive kudos from your community for teaching young people the basics in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)- the future of jobs in our country.

The Sylvan team will work closely with you to jointly promote your FREE Hour of Code class and ensure the event is a success.

How much does it cost to host an Hour of Code class in your community?
Nothing! Sylvan Learning covers all instructor expenses and provides all materials for the 1 hour of code training.

Learning Room:
It should be set up with desks or long tables in a school room style with ample room for participants to work.

Equipment: For equipment, a white board and a projector that accepts a laptop are required. (Your Sylvan Instructor will bring their own laptop computer)
A high-speed Internet connection will also be needed, as we will need the internet connection to conduct the first part of our coding class using iPads we will bring. This is always a popular, fun and important part of the class.

When can we do it?
We’ll need at least 4 weeks to effectively coordinate and promote your event. The further out you schedule, the better. Since our workshops are 1 hour, a window of an hour and a half for use of your venue will be required for our instructors to set up and break down the event.
You pick the day and we’ll do our best to make it happen!
