Sylvan Learning Celebrates “Read Across America Day”
with Three Beauty Queens

In exciting news, Sylvan Learning of Salem, NH recently celebrated “Read Across America Day”
partnering with three state titleholders on March 2nd at the St Monica’s school in Methuen, MA.
METHUEN, Mass. — It would be hard to think of an academic skill more important to a child’s healthy development than their ability to read well, read confidently, and enjoy the rich and imaginative world that books can offer! Few understand this as deeply or with as much passion as Salem, NH’s leading tutoring learning center, Sylvan Learning.

In a successful effort to help spread the excitement and positive benefits of reading, Sylvan Learning partnered with state beauty queens to celebrate “Read Across America Day”; an event celebrating Dr Seuss’ birthday at the St. Monica’s school in Methuen, MA.

The titleholders included: Julia Scaparotti – Miss Massachusetts USA, Caitlyn Martin – Miss Massachusetts Teen USA and Kolby Tracey – Miss New Hampshire Teen USA.

The titleholders were supplied by Sylvan with a Dr Seuss themed tote bag filled with not only his books, but stickers, crafts, book markers, pencils and games. All this was done in order to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s contributions to literature and foster a love of reading by interacting with the students from pre-K through 3rd grade.img_5861

Sylvan offers a wide range of tutoring programs, Math Edge and STEM courses, along with college SAT preparatory classes.

As the Marketing Coordinator for Sylvan Learning, I had the pleasure of being part of a spectacular event celebrating Read Across America Day on March 2, 2017.

Sylvan Learning teamed up with state titleholders, Julia Scaparotti – Miss Massachusetts USA, Caitlyn Martin -Miss Massachusetts Teen USA and Kolby Tracey – Miss New Hampshire Teen USA.  The queens read Dr Seuss stories to the kids.

St Monica’s school in Methuen, MA hosted us for the day that celebrates Dr Seuss’ birthday. A day to celebrate the joy of reading. The principal, Suzanne Fodini along with the entire staff were so welcoming to all of us.

Sylvan Learning supplied each titleholder with a Dr Seuss themed tote bag filled with Dr Seuss books, stickers, crafts, book markers, pencils and games to celebrate the day with the students from Pre-K through 8th grade.

As the queens interacted with the students, it was a joy to see the expressions of wonder and excitement on their adorable faces. 🤗

Sylvan Learning – Hour of Code

Hi, Kim Bass here. As the marketing coordinator for Sylvan Learning Center in Salem, NH, I was fortunate to work with Mrs. Kristen DiMatteo, Director of Education at Sylvan Learning. Kristen “rocked” as the instructor for the Hour of Code classes at Bradford Elementary School in Bradford, Massachusetts.  The kids truly enjoyed it…they didn’t want Kristen to leave!

If you would like to host an Hour of Code event at your school or venue, (Recommended ages of students are 10-13 year olds) Contact the Salem, NH Sylvan Learning center to partner with us and bring a FREE Hour of Code class to your community. You’ll likely receive kudos from your community for teaching young people the basics in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)- the future of jobs in our country.

The Sylvan team will work closely with you to jointly promote your FREE Hour of Code class and ensure the event is a success.

How much does it cost to host an Hour of Code class in your community?
Nothing! Sylvan Learning covers all instructor expenses and provides all materials for the 1 hour of code training.

Learning Room:
It should be set up with desks or long tables in a school room style with ample room for participants to work.

Equipment: For equipment, a white board and a projector that accepts a laptop are required. (Your Sylvan Instructor will bring their own laptop computer)
A high-speed Internet connection will also be needed, as we will need the internet connection to conduct the first part of our coding class using iPads we will bring. This is always a popular, fun and important part of the class.

When can we do it?
We’ll need at least 4 weeks to effectively coordinate and promote your event. The further out you schedule, the better. Since our workshops are 1 hour, a window of an hour and a half for use of your venue will be required for our instructors to set up and break down the event.
You pick the day and we’ll do our best to make it happen!
